Exercise 1 - Create an app
Log-in
Edit mode
  • Click the “edit mode” button to enable the controls for creating and editing apps.
Create a new app
  • In the menu bar, click “Add app”
Create an app
  • In the “Create app” pop-up do the following:
    • Select the Public option
    • Enter the app title, e.g. "Dashboards"
    • Change the cube source to "General Ledger"
    • Click the “Create” button
Publish the app

All the configurations and changes are done so far are available only for your user and not available for any other. The Applications having unpublished changes are marked with a pen icon.

In order to publish the dashboard, follow the steps below:

  • Click on the publish button 
  • Click on the Yes button in the confirmation popup
Exercise 2 - Configure the dashboard

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Log-in

Open the dashboard settings
  • Navigate to the dashboard and click the edit mode
  • Click the settings icon in the toolbar
Change the Dashboard title
  • In the setting pop-up, Change the title to “Exec Dashboard” and close the pop-up.
  • Make sure the title got changed
Configure widget data
  • In the “New Widget”, click the cube settings to configure the dimensions.
  • Drag and drop the Region Dimension to the “Widget Rows” and configure as follows:
    • Set the subset dropdown to Region Level
    • Set the attribute to Code and Description
  • Drag and drop the “Version” Dimension to the “Widget Columns” and configure:
    • Set the subset dropdown to Default
    •  Set the attribute to Description
  • Drag and drop the “Year Month” Dimension to the Dashboard Filters and configure:
    • Set the subset dropdown to Years
    • Set the default element to 2016
  • Drag and drop the “Period” Dimension to the Dashboard Fixed Values and configure
    • Set the value to Year
  • Drag and drop the Currency Dimension to the Dashboard Fixed Values and do the following configuration
    • Set the value to Local
  • Drag and drop the Department Dimension to the Dashboard Filters and do the following configuration
    • Set the subset drop-down to Default
    • Set the Default Element to 1
  • Drag and drop the “Account” dimension to the Dashboard Filters configure
    • Set the subset drop-down to “Net Income”
    • Set the attribute to “Description”
    • Set the default element to “4” or click on “select” and choose “Net Income” from the drop-down 
  • Drag and drop the “General Ledger Measure” Dimension to the Dashboard Fixed Value and configure
    • Set the value to “Amount”
Check the grid widget

After configuration, close the popup and ensure the grid widget is loaded on screen with data.

Update the filter description and enable the hierarchy
  • Open the widget cube setting and click on the Department Dimension and change the Attribute value to Code and Description
  • Click on the Region Dimension and enable the Hierarchy by switching the show Hierarchy to “ON”
  • Close the pop-up and make sure the widget grid is loaded with the hierarchy and the department filter is showing the full description. Click the plus button in front of a consolidation to expand it.
Exercise 3 - Change widget layout and change widget title

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Dashboard layout
  • Click the “Device Settings” icon to open a pop-up to configure the responsive screen setup.
  • You can change the width of the widget by clicking on a box under the widget title. The screen is logically divided in 12 columns and you can choose the width as a proportion of those (1 to 12, e.g. 6 will have the widget take up have of the horizontal space).
Change the widget name
  • Click on the setting icon of the New widget and change the name of the widget to “Overview” and close the popup.
Exercise 4 - Create new widget

Prerequisites For This Exercise

Create a new widget
  • Click the “+” (plus)-button and then select “Widget” to create a new widget.
    • Enter the widget title as "Waterfall"
    • Change the cube source to "General Ledger"
    • Click on Create button
Setting up the waterfall chart
  • Click on the Cube icon of the waterfall widget to configure the dimensions.
  • Drag and drop the Version Dimension to the Widget Rows and configure
    • Set the subset dropdown to Element Comparison
    • Set the value to Actual
    • Set the value Max to Budget
  • Drag and drop the Region Dimension to the Dashboard Filters and do the following configuration
    • Set the subset dropdown to Default
    • Set the attribute to Code & Description
    • Set the default element to (World) or click on select and choose the World from the dropdown 
  • Drag and drop the Account Dimension to the Widget Columns and do the following configuration
    • Set the subset dropdown to Net Income 1
    • Set the attribute to Code & Description
  • Close the popup and make sure the Waterfall grid widget is loaded on the screen
Change the widget type
  • Click on the Waterfall widget cube setting icon and configure
    • Change the widget type to Charts
    • Select the Chart type to Waterfall
  • Close the pop-up and make sure the waterfall chart is loaded on the screen
Exercise 5 - Widget responsive configuration

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Widget responsive configuration
  • Open the “Device Settings” pop-up.
  • Change the width of the waterfall chart to half of the screen (6/12).
  • Close the popup and make sure the width of the widget has changed.
Exercise 6 - The grid widget column width configuration

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Adjust column widget on grid
  • Change the Grid widget column width by dragging the column borders
  • Press the widget Save button.
  • Click on the grid widget setting icon and make sure that the colWidget object has be generated.
  • Close the popup
Exercise 7 - Show source data and Export chart to PNG

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Show Source data
  • Click the three dots in the top right corner of the chart widget and choose “Show Source Data”.
  • The grid with the data source is displayed.
  • To switch back to chart, click on the same three dots icon and choose “Revert back to original widget”.
Export chart to PNG
  • Click the three dots in the top right corner of the waterfall widget and chose the "Revert back to original widget"
  • Click the three dots in the top right corner of the waterfall widget and hover the "Export" option and click on the png
  • The PNG file is downloaded in your browser.
Exercise 8 - Grid advanced filter by column

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Advanced filter by column
  • Click on the funnel to enable the columns filter
  • Open the advanced filter in columns and select America and Argentina
  • Filter by condition – choose one of the following Excel like conditions
  • Filter by Top X in numeric columns
    • Choose Top or Bottom
    • Number
    • Number or per cent (refers to the number above)
    • The source elements (current elements, leaf elements in a subset or in a dimension)
  • Remove the filter by clicking on “Clear All Filters” or one individual filter
Exercise 9 - Cell commentary

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Cell Commentary
  • Right click on a cell and choose Comments
  • In the Cell Commentary pop-up enter the text using formatting in editor
  • Press Post button
  • See the marked cell having comments
  • You can visualize the full cell commentary history by right click and choose Comments.

Widget

Exercise 10 - Widget interactive and configure dynamic title

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

Widget interactivity

Click on the Cube setting icon on the toolbar and do the following configuration to the widget

  • Click on the Region Dimension on the rows and do the following configuration
    • Set the Hyperlink value to ON
  • Close the pop-up. The “Region” row headers should now be formatted as a hyperlink and clicking them will change the “Region” filter.
Create a dynamic title
  • Click on the setting icon of the Waterfall chart and change the title to the following
    • $<<UX_Samples.Region.Region>> Waterfall – This placeholder value will be replaced by the filter Region dimension value


Note: This syntax allows creating dynamic titles with all the dimensions which are used in the application.  $<<(instance_name).(Dimensions name).(Hierarchy name) >>

  • Close the pop-up and make sure the Widget title is replaced by the region filter value
Exercise 11 - Using the subset editor

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

  • Open the “Cube Settings” pop-up of the “Overview” widget and click the “Version” dimension.
  • Click the subset editor (edit icon button)
  • Make sure the subset editor is loaded on the screen and select the Actual, Budget and Act Vs Bud in the list (press and hold Ctrl or Shift to select multiple items). Then, click on the keep (green button on the toolbar) and save button
  • The List Type is now changed to MDX and the selected elements are listed in the MDX statement
  • Close the cube setting pop-up button and make sure the Overview widget grid is loaded with the updated column
  • Open the settings again and revert the List Type to Subset and choose the Default subset to revert to the previous state.
Exercise 12 - Save the dashboard

All the configuration done only in the edit mode and it won't be available in the normal mode. The enduser won't be able to see the changes. To make these configuration available, do the following steps

  • Click the Save button on the top header
  • Click the save changes button in the confirmation popup
  • After clicking the save changes button the popup will be closed and the changes will be available in the normal mode
Exercise 13 - Set-up panding page
Exercise 14 - Create a grid views
  • Click on the Dashboard menu and click on the “+ Add” option
  • Once the create app pop-up is loaded do the following steps
    • Select the Public option
    • Select the type as “View”
    • Leave the view title empty
    • Change the cube source to "Retail"
    • Click on Create button
  • After clicking the create button, the application will automatically redirects to the new view

Click on the new view settings icon and change the title to "Sales Planning"

  • Close the pop-up
Exercise 15 - Publish the views

In order to publish the view, follow the steps below:

  • Click on the publish button 
  • Click on the Yes button in the confirmation popup
Exercise 16 - Configure the grid view

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

  •  Click on the Sales Planning view cube settings icon

Once the pop-up is loaded on the screen as per the screenshot, do the following configuration to load the view.

  • Drag and drop the Version dimension to the Global Fixed Settings and do the following configuration
    • Set the value to Budget
  • Drag and drop the Year dimension to the Global Fixed Settings and do the following configuration
    • Set the value to 2016
  • Drag and drop the Period dimension to the columns and do the following config
    • Set the subset to Default
    • Set the attribute to Short Description
  • Drag and drop the Product dimension to the rows and do the following configuration
    • Set the subset to Accessories
    • Set the attribute to Code & Description
    • Enable the show hierarchy
  • Drag and drop the Currency dimension to the global fixes and do the following configuration
    • Set the value to Local
  • Drag and drop the Region dimension to the global filter and do the following configuration
    • Set the subset to Default
    • Set the default element to USA
    • Set the Attribute to Code & Description
    • Enable the Disable drill-downsolidations
  • Drag and drop the Retail Measure Dimension to the global filter and do the following configuration
    • Set the subset to All Elements
    • Set the default element to Sales Amount
  • Close the Cube Settings window.
Exercise 17 - Enable zero suppression and subset selection

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

  • Click on the cube settings icon on the toolbar.
    • Choose the Zero Suppression setting (Row, Columns) – the default view suppression
    • Enable the Zero Suppression button and choose Rows and Columns
  • Click on the Product dimension and do the following configuration
    • Enable Subset Selection
    • Choose Accessories, Bikes and Clothing in Multi Subset Select list
  • Close the pop-up and check the subset selection availability
Exercise 18 - Toolbar pop-up

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

  • Click on the Plus icon and select the Toolbar Pop-up
  • Once the create toolbar pop-up is loaded, do the following steps
    • Enter the toolbar title as "Load From Excel"
    • Change the cube source to "Retail"
    • Click on Create button
  • Click the Load From Excel toolbar button
  • Click on the widget cube setting icon under the Load From Excel popup.  Then, do the following configuration
    • Set Widget Type to XLS Upload
    • Drag and drop the Product dimension to the rows
    • Drag and drop the Year Month dimension to the columns
  • Close all the popups and click on the Load From Excel toolbar button.
  • The excel upload widget should now be available on the popup
  • Click on Save button to make the configuration available for users.
Exercise 19 - Create a new wizard
  • Click on the Dashboard menu and click on the “+ Add” option
  • Do the following steps
    • Select the Public option
    • Select the type as “Wizard”
    • Enter the wizard title as "Wizard Examples"
    • Leave Create With Default Settings selected
    • Choose General Ledger as Cube Source
    • Click on Create button

After click the create button, the application will automatically redirects to the wizard page

  • Click on the Settings icon and overwrite the title with GL Dashboard
  • Close the popup
Exercise 20 - Publish the wizard

  • Close the popup. For the given configuration, the grid will loaded under the GL Dashboard
Exercise 22 - Create a new wizard step

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

  • Click on the + sign to open the action menu and choose “Wizard Step”.
  • Enter “Planning” as title for the new step and uncheck the “Created With Default Settings” radio button.
  • A new Steps is created; choose to create a new Wizard SubStep
  • Type “Retail” for Title and choose “Retail” as Cube Source
  • The new Planning step should look as below
Exercise 23 - Configure the sub-view

Exercise 26 - Views sorting

Prerequisites For This Exercise

It is strongly recommended you first complete the following sections before working through this section:

In the App management, the views under the app can be sorted. Checkout the following steps to sort the view

  • Navigate to app management. By default, the apps will be in collapsed state. Expand the app that needs to be sorted.
  • After expanding the app, enable the sorting by click the "Enable sort" button in the toolbar
  • Drag and drop the view in the required position and click the disable sorting button to disable the sorting
  • Refresh the page, the view order will be changed in the menu drop-down as well
